According to the survey, 79% of HR experts concur with the view that there is a place for bias during the recruiting process. Let’s take a look at some widespread types of bias and how one can spot them.

7 types of bias:

1. Confirmation bias. This bias is about perceiving the candidate and using their answers to confirm your convictions regardless of what they are actually telling you.
2. Halo effect. This bias takes place when you let one positive trait of the candidate take over all other considerations or potential alerts.
3. The horn effect. This bias is a contrast to the previous halo effect. It happens when one negative trait of the candidate casts a shadow on all of their other statements.
4. The effect of influence. This bias comes to pass when emotions or psychological state of the recruiter affects their decision making.
5. Similarity bias. This bias makes us feel affection for those who behave like us or a have a similar appearance. This may lead to many companies having a homogenous base of employees.
6. Self-assurance. The recruiter hastily conducts the recruitment process because they have overestimated their ability to assess statements made by the candidate.
7. Appearance bias. It has to do with the conviction that people with good looks are more successful.
